Course & Learning Overview

The Garden Route Hotel Schools offers skills programmes (short courses) and one-year certificates

The Tourism Hospitality Education Training Authority (THETA) programmes are Unit Standard based and consist of 30% academic or theoretical work (lecture based) and 70% practical training within the Hotel School.

Programmes commence in January of each year. On the completion of the modules, assessments are conducted between the learner and the assessor. On successful completion of the first-year course or any part thereof, a student may be issued with either a certificate of competency of will be declared competent in the courses that they might have been found to be competent in.

Full-Time Courses Offered:

  • Food & Beverage Services – National Certificate (NQF Level 4)
  • Professional Cookery – National Certificate (NQF Level 4)
  • Accommodation Services – National Certificate (NQF Level 2)


The main theory component will take place at Sky Villa Boutique Hotel, with the practical placements taking place between Sky Villa and sister property, The Bungalow Plett; there will also be cross- training at the other Collection properties to give students experience in different accommodation types.
